The Latitude D400 is designed for users who need a thin and light system but who aren't willing to
compromise on performance. Even with its thin & light 3.8 pound1 design, the D400 doesn't skimp on
performance, offering the ideal blend of power and efficiency using Intel® Pentium® M processors and the
Intel® 855GM integrated video chipset. Connectivity is also a priority with the D400, which includes standard
Intel CentrinoTM Mobile Technology featuring the Intel Pro Wireless MiniPCI card or other optional Dell
Wireless solutions.
Intuitive Form Factors & Design
The Latitude D400 makes a great impression with its slim design, which is only an inch thick. The system's
hard disk drive is internal, with optical media used externally in the included Dell D/Bay, so you can carry
media modules only when they might be needed. The D/Bay also uses the same modular optical media
solutions as the other Latitude D-Family systems. The D400's Tri-MetalTM chassis -- with external magnesium
alloy frame -- looks great and helps provide structural rigidity as well.
Docking Solutions
Latitude's ingenious D-Family docking solutions allow you to view your system at a whole new level. The
Latitude D/View notebook stand elevates the notebook's LCD to a comfortable viewing position, replacing the
need for an external display and offering the convenience of an all in one desktop solution. Enjoy the versatility
of the D-Family docking solutions with a choice of either the Latitude D/Port Advanced Port Replicator or the
D/Dock Expansion Station.
Dell Wired and Wireless Communications Solutions
Every Dell Latitude D400 features a wireless networking mini-PCI card, 56K2 V.92 capable modem and
10/100/1000 wired network card as part of the standard offering. Included in the standard wireless offering
is the Intel® Pro Wireless MiniPCI card. The D400 also features other wireless options, including a choice of
either of the Dell Wireless LAN solutions for those who demand blazing 802.11 wireless connectivity as well as the Dell TrueMobileTM 300 integrated Bluetooth solution. With Gigabit Ethernet, users can rest assured that their notebook investments are compatible with future deployment of Gigabit Ethernet
across the network infrastructure.
High Performance with Intel® Pentium® M Processor and Intel® 855GM Chipset
The Dell Latitude D400 features the latest Intel Pentium M processors, which utilize a new micro-architecture
incorporating a power-optimized 400MHz processor system bus and aggressive clock gating designed for high
performance & low power. These processors also feature up to 2MB of power managed cache and enhanced
Intel SpeedStep® Technology. The D400 also incorporates the Intel® 855GM chipset, which offers integrated
graphics capability and USB 2.0 support. The integrated graphics utilizes the system memory as a shared
resource for both system memory and graphics needs, dynamically allocating a portion of the memory to
graphics based on the graphic demands of the applications currently in use. Up to 64MB of memory can be
allocated to graphics, and with integrated video acceleration, you can view high quality, full frame rate DVDs on your notebook or connected external display with exceptionally low power consumption.
Integrated Smart Card Security For a Worry Free Mobile Experience
While today's notebook computers offer unprecedented power, their mobility also brings new vulnerabilities, such as
unauthorized user access. The Latitude D400 confronts this problem with an integrated Smart Card reader. Used in
combination with applicable software, Smart Cards provide a robust solution to user authentication. |
